Substance Misuse Nurse

Seven Criminal Justice are searching for a dedicated and compassionate Substance Misuse Nurse to join our healthcare team in Canterbury, UK. This role involves specializing in the treatment, intervention, and recovery from drug and alcohol misuse.

Responsibilities:

1. Carry out initial assessments and continuous re-evaluations of patients undergoing treatment for substance misuse.

2. Develop, implement, and review individualised care and treatment programmes for patients.

3. Administer medication in line with patients’ specific treatment plans.

4. Provide harm reduction advice and healthcare education to patients.

5. Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team comprising of doctors, therapists, social workers, etc to ensure patient well-being.

6. Possess understanding and sensitivity towards the social, cultural, and personal issues surrounding substance misuse.

7. Educate and support individuals’ families and caregivers in understanding and dealing with substance misuse.

8. Monitor and document the progress of the treatment, making necessary changes or recommending different treatments if required.

9. Liaise with community groups and other healthcare providers to maintain an integrated approach to healthcare provision.

10. Participate in research programs relating to substance misuse to keep up to date with the latest treatments and developments in this field.

Qualifications:

1. A registered nurse with a valid NMC pin.

2. Experience working in substance misuse or addiction services is strongly preferred.

3. Demonstrated understanding of, and respect for, the experiences, attitudes and behaviours of people who are affected by substance misuse.

4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to show empathy and build trust with patients in a non-judgemental manner.

5. Ability to handle stressful situations and respond to them in a calm and composed manner.

6. Skill in organising and prioritising workload whilst maintaining a high standard of care.

7. Understanding and commitment to confidentiality and patient rights.

8. A self-driven individual with the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
