Substance Misuse Nurse

Seven Criminal Justice is currently seeking a dedicated, compassionate Substance Misuse Nurse to join our team of professionals in Reading. We are looking for a candidate with a special interest in focusing on interventions that encourage our service users to achieve a drug-free lifestyle.

Responsibilities:

The Substance Misuse Nurse will be in charge of:

1. Providing support to individuals suffering from substance abuse issues, including alcohol and drug addiction.

2. Managing the health needs, planning, delivery, and evaluation of care for patients.

3. Developing, implementing, and reviewing care plans in cooperation with other health care professionals.

4. Observe and record the condition of patients and maintain their medical records.

5. Conducting therapeutic group work and 1-to-1 assessments.

6. Administering medication as prescribed by doctors.

7. Providing harm-reduction advice and health promotion support.

8. Ensuring legal requirements are followed concerning controlled drugs and storage.

9. Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota.

Qualifications:

1. Valid NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) registration.

2. Education to degree level in nursing.

3. Previous experience within substance misuse nursing is preferred.

4. An understanding of the needs and treatment care plans of patients with substance misuse.

5. Knowledge of the guidelines and legislation related to substance misuse.

6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

7. Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and understanding.

Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate exceptional care and empathy, and have a strong commitment to reducing the harm caused by substance abuse. The ideal candidate will also have excellent team working abilities and be capable of working under pressure.

Please note, this role will require an enhanced DBS check.
