Substance Misuse Nurse

Seven Criminal Justice are excited to announce an opening for a dedicated and experienced Substance Misuse Nurse in Preston. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide crucial support to patients struggling with drug and alcohol misuse. This role requires a compassionate individual who can implement an effective treatment plan, maximising the well-being and recovery process of individuals in the community.

Responsibilities:

1. Undertake initial health and substance misuse assessments.

2. Develop and manage individual care plans, ensuring patients’ needs are met.

3. Administer prescribed medicines and monitor effects, making necessary adjustments in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

4. Deliver harm reduction advice and health promotion.

5. Undertake blood borne virus testing and provide needle exchange services.

6. Conduct regular client reviews, updating care plans accordingly and addressing emerging issues promptly.

7. Liaise effectively with other healthcare professionals, statutory agencies and non-statutory agencies to deliver the best possible patient care.

8. Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring adherence to regulations and confidentiality protocols.

Requirements:

1. Must be a Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN) with NMC registration.

2. Experience in substance misuse or mental health is crucial.

3. Ability to connect with and empathise with vulnerable individuals.

4. Outstanding communication and organisational skills.

5. Knowledge of detoxification processes and relevant interventions.

6. Basic understanding of relevant laws and guidelines (e.g. The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971).

7. An up-to-date DBS check.

8. Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
