Education Welfare Officer

Seven Resourcing are looking for a temporary Education Welfare Officer to work in the London Borough of Hillingdon. This position is initially for a period of 3 months and is paying £20.02 per hour (paid to you via an umbrella company).

The role:

The Key Worker (Participation) will deliver and coordinate personalised, evidence based early and preventative interventions for children, young people and their families in Tier 2 and 3 of need with the aims of de-escalating issues of concern, achieving sustainable change, promoting capability and capacity within families to problem solve difficulties they are or may experience. The post holder will play a lead role in responding to family need where the primary presenting issue relates to non participation in education, employment or training (EET).

The Key Worker (Participation) will manage a caseload where the prevailing issue is non participation in EET education but may also include working with:

      Higher need families with complex and multiple difficulties involved in or at risk of being involved in crime, antisocial behaviour, disengagement with education and risk of homelessness or edge of care; and

Lower need families experiencing difficulties that are likely to become more complex and entrenched without a brief solution focused intervention.

Demand for support will come from a number of sources including schools and Academies who have identified school attendance concerns.

The Key Worker (Participation) will also work with fellow team members and partner agencies and in conjunction with the Performance and Intelligence Team to monitor and track the participation of 13 – 19 year olds (up to 25 for looked after young people) and prioritise targeted intervention and support for those most at risk of sustained disengagement.

Key Responsibilities:

      To develop, implement and review evidence based intervention plans, based on assessed needs, which address areas of concern with a focus on matters impacting on a child or a young person’s participation in EET whilst promoting problems solving skills/strategies within the family. Plans may be for the family as a whole or specific to individual members.

To develop, implement and review Attendance Plans for pupils within the context of the early help assessment and team around the family methodology.

To deliver interventions directly to young people and / or the family unit and where required and appropriate broker services, as part of the plan, from partner agencies, voluntary or community groups.

To be persistent in the engagement of families or individuals who may be resistant by using assertive, creative and practical engagement strategies.

To work intensively with children, young people and their families in their own homes and community settings. Through the provision of EET related information, advice and the use of modelling and coaching techniques promote the development of skills, knowledge, aspirations to overcome individual and family barriers to sustained participation in EET.

Where required to provide guidance, advice and training to parents on child and adolescent development, managing conflict and challenging behaviour and on the EET opportunities and pathways.

To work in partnership with families to identify and address needs and reduce the risk of poor outcomes for children, young people and their families with particular regard to outcomes associated with non participation in EET. To seek support with issues wider that education from colleagues and partner agencies.

To work closely and creatively with schools and academies and partner agencies to deliver effective service for children, young people and their families in line with the stated purpose of the Key-worker (Participation) job purpose.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A recognised qualification in a related profession e.g: Education, youth work, child and family development).
  • Experience: At least two years experience of working in an Education Welfare, Inclusion or similar role.
  • Compliance: Proof of ability to work and live in the UK. Current DBS check and references covering the last 3 years.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 35 hours p/w.
