Virtual School Learning Advocate

  • Location: West Worthing, England
  • Salary: £18.19 - £18.19 per hour
  • Type: Temporary / Full Time

Seven Resourcing are looking for a temporary Virtual School Learning Advocate to work in Worthing, West Sussex. This position is initially for a period of 3 months and is paying £18.19 per hour (paid to you via an umbrella company).

The role:

This newly created role within the Advisory Service will involve working with colleagues in schools, parents and carers, our social care colleagues and other professionals. Through professional engagement, consultation and collaboration, and the delivery of training, you will support and challenge others to understand the impact of a child’s lived experiences on their ability to engage in learning. By encouraging them to consider a child’s presentation through a trauma informed lens, colleagues will then be able to reflect on their own policies and practice and how they impact on the experiences and outcomes of this cohort of children and young people.

You will be required to respond to queries from stakeholders, manage information with sensitivity and discretion, and actively seek opportunities to enable stakeholders to improve their own knowledge and practice. This role will report to the Assistant Head of the Virtual School.

You will need to be able to travel independently to various locations around the county. There is a regular and intrinsic requirement to communicate in English with members of the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Raise awareness of the unique needs and challenges that children with social care involvement face in engaging in learning.
  • Engage with Local Authority colleagues to develop a consistent approach to direct work that is based on an understanding of the child’s lived experiences.
  • Provide information and advice to parents, carers, and professionals to improve the engagement in learning, and experiences and outcomes of children who have or have ever had social care involvement.
  • Support and challenge others to develop their policies and practice by providing a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical suggestions and strategies.
  • Co-facilitate groups that enable professionals working directly with children with social care involvement to learn from and support one another.
  • Use countywide data to analyse outcomes for children with social care involvement to target interventions where they will have the greatest impact.
  • Create and deliver training and resources to stakeholders to enable a greater understanding of the impact of a child’s lived experiences and how these can best be met in an educational setting.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records that evidence the advice and information given.
  • Use your knowledge of wider education systems e.g. SEND, attendance and safeguarding, to enable parents, carers and professionals to advocate successfully for a child.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: HLTA, or equivalent qualification higher than a classroom assistant.
  • Experience: 1+ year of experience within a similar role.
  • Compliance: Proof of ability to work and live in the UK. Current DBS check and references covering the last 5 years.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37 hours p/w.
