AMHP (Approved Mental Health Professional)

Seven Social Care are looking for an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), you will play an integral role in implementing strategies to ensure the highest standard of mental health service provision to patients in need in Truro. This role entails working closely with medical professionals, families, and carers to draw up care plans tailored to the patients’ needs, ensuring their views and aspirations are taken into account.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conducting mental health assessments in conjunction with healthcare practitioners.

2. Making decisions about the appropriate course of action to aid a patient, which could include instigating detention under the Mental Health Act.

3. Liaising closely with registered medical practitioners, social workers, police officers, and relatives.

4. Providing advice and assistance to other mental health professionals.

5. Participating in care planning, implementation, and review processes.

6. Keeping up-to-date with changes to legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure best possible care is administered.

7. Promoting understanding and managing risk to ensure patient and community safety.

Qualifications and Experience:

1. Proof of successful completion of AMHP training and eligibility to be an Approved Mental Health Professional under the Mental Health Act 1983.

2. Significant post-qualification experience in mental health settings.

3. Current registration with a recognised professional body (e.g., Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health and Care Professions Council).

4. Demonstrable understanding of Mental Health legislation, Codes of Practice, and national standards.

5. Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

6. The ability to handle a high degree of pressure and meet strict deadlines.
