Children’s Services Solicitor

Seven Resourcing is working with Leicestershire County Council to recruit for a Solicitor within Children’s Services.

You must have experience within Children’s Services.

£50 – £65 per hour.

Initial 3 month contract.

Job Purpose:

The provision of appropriate professional legal services to

the Children & Young People’s Service and other departments as required, together with other main duties and responsibilities.

It is vital to the future of the department that the post holder is flexible in taking on additional tasks,willing to offer help to employees in other groups, and treats co-operation and support for colleagues as a top priority.

Duties:

The post holder will be part of a team of solicitors providing advocacy and

advice in relation to the Children & Young People’s Service, responsibilities of the Authority, in particular Specialist Services, including child protection.

Providing appropriate recommendations and advice to officers of the authority, members and the Cabinet/Committees/Panels, Case Conferences and other inter-agency meetings, as appropriate.

Providing professional advice and guidance in order to assist departments in interpreting and implementing Government policy and legislation to promote understanding and improve consistency.

Ensuring provision of an efficient and effective advisory service, which meets specified timescales to ; Departments, Officers of the Authority, Members and the Cabinet/Committees/Panels, Case Conferences and other internal and external partners and stakeholders

Advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court and County Court;

Advocacy, when suitably experienced, in the Family Division of the High Court;

The post holder may be required to advise officers of the Authority and Members and undertake advocacy in respect of any responsibilities of the Authority within the service areas of the Departments identified above.

Representing the Authority on external bodies as directed by the Team Leader in consultation with the Assistant Head of Legal Services and through this to develop and maintain creditability and promote partnership working as appropriate.

Through your professional capacity, to effectively promote the reputation of the County Council when representing the Authority through liaison with other agencies, such as Courts, Local Government specialist groups etc.

Be proactive in identifying barriers and mechanisms to delivery of service improvements to the Legal Services Management Team

Ensure adherence to relevant Health and Safety Procedures

Contributes positively to the Equalities Agenda

Provision of training as appropriate to your experience to officers of the Authority or officers from other agencies on the legal context of their work, to facilitate their development and ensure promotion of consistent practices.

Maintain and update your professional standard and knowledge of law through the upkeep of your CPD and undertaking training and development appropriate to the role and future progression.

The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties which can reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade proposed as defined.

Qualifications:

      Degree approved by Legal Boards

Experience: Advocacy Experience. Working within children’s services. Experience of supervising more junior staff

Compliance: Up to date Passport.

Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.

Hours: 37 hours p/w.
