Communications/PR Lead

Seven Resourcing is working with Coventry City Council to recruit a Communication/PR Lead within their Corporate Communications service.

Initial 6 month contract until at least the end of March 2024.

Drivers Licence with business use

Location: Council House – Floor 1 (Coventry)

Working Hours: Core hours are Mon – Thursday 8:30-5, Friday – 8:30-4:30. Monday to Friday, but because this role will be a link between the public and the cabinet, a level of flexibility is expected. It may involve occasional early/late working or weekend, depending on what is happening at the council at that time. 

Will the worker be required to drive as part of their role? Yes – Own Vehicle

Location – hybrid, based at the council house.  Again, frequency of working remotely vs in the office will depend on what is required at the time.  During election for example they may be required to be in the office more.

Pay Rate: £24.13-£28.47.

Job:

Coventry City Council is looking for an interim Communications Lead to develop and produce strategic communications campaigns that boost the council’s position in the marker ‘brand awareness’, effectively promote council services, innovative projects and achievements to strengthen the council ‘s public image. 

This is an additional role and will work closely with the Head of Communications, Chief Executive, Leadership Team, key Elected Members  and work alongside an existing and well-established Communications Team. 

In this position, you will need to plan, develop and deliver communication strategies using a wider range of media to ensure the council is connecting with residents and having a firm place in the market. You will also develop proactive communication materials to build trust with target audiences and drive business growth.

You will be responsible for creating and implementing strategies and initiatives that aim to raise awareness of the Council’s impact, successes, and results. You will achieve this by highlighting successful actions/projects and investments, preparing high-profile promotional events, and helping to manage the activities of external communication teams.

You will need to foster relationships with external partners to leverage opportunities for growth and collaboration. You will also be expected to establish and maintain trust with various internal and external stakeholders through the innovative use of media tools and public engagement projects and initiatives.

Duties:

–    Develop a more strategic approach to keeping staff, stakeholders and public up to date with the challenging issues facing  the council including impact of funding shortages.

–    Promote the strengths and reputation of the city to support additional private and public sector investment .

–    Ensure full public engagement with critical Local Authority  processes for example the Local Plan

–    Play an active role in the development and implementation of the Council’s internal and external communications strategy-including online and social media components-that supports the council’s overarching vision.

–    Write, edit, and develop content-and the design, production, and distribution of the Council ‘s promotional content across all communication channels and platforms.

–    Be responsible for the development and maintenance of  a comprehensive events contact database and conduct interviews with key parties, such as stakeholders and the technical staff to generate new communications materials.

–    Develop  the comms plans and relevant materials for high-profile PR events and manage the editorial calendar for the planning and timely execution of all communications activities.

–    Collaborate with leadership to promote positive internal communications that keep all staff members up-to-date and promote an integrated and collaborative environment.

–    Identify efficient means of communication with stakeholders and other key partners with the aim to build rapport and raise awareness.

Role Requirements:

–    Demonstrable experience in organizational strategic communications or a related field, including direct practical evidence of PR, Communications, or Public Policy

–    Excellent knowledge of social media

–    Exceptional communication, presentation, and public speaking skills

–    Ability to persuade, negotiate, and advance/resolve issues through strategic communication.

–    Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.

–    Strong writing and editorial skills

–    Solid multitasking and time-management skills, with a capacity to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and advance several projects at once.
