HGV Mechanic

Seven Resourcing is working with Leicestershire County Council to recruit for an HGV Mechanic for their transport operations service in Croft.

Initial 3 month contract.

£14.43ph PAYE

Job Purpose:

To service and repair of vehicles and plant in a safe, efficient and economic manner employing such skills and knowledge as may be required with due regard to current Technical and Health & Safety legislation.

Duties:

To drive and manoeuvre motor vehicles and plant as necessary, recovering defective or damaged vehicles, carrying out the full range of technical checks and diagnostic tests required for light & heavy goods, and passenger transport vehicles.

To observe, recognise and report on mechanical and electrical vehicle, component, or systems defects, or impending failure, assessing, recording and/or costing the repair (as appropriate).

To carry out routine inspections, service and MOT of all vehicles and selected plant in the LCC fleet according to the schedules issued by the Workshop Manager, and in accordance with prescribed quality standards, utilising specialist services as required.

To examine vehicles, reporting verbally or in writing, (as dictated by the Senior Mechanic/Workshop Manager) upon the condition, roadworthiness and safety.

To carry out both mechanical and electrical repairs and/or adjustments as required, under the instruction of the Senior Mechanic/Workshop Manager to the prescribed quality standards. 

To interpret and implement technical service instruction data, and manufacturers’ modifications.

To maintain a personal tool kit, special tools and equipment in a good, safe, secure condition.

To requisition replacement parts/materials from stores in accordance with procedures seeking approval as required 

To keep accurate time sheets, work sheets, electronic records stores records , accident occurrence forms etc in accordance with LCC policy and compliance procedures.

To observe and operate the necessary health and safety precautions for all works, and compliance with safety policies and procedures as laid down by the Department and County Council

To operate a safe working environment in accordance with LCC policy, and to be compliant with, and apply, health and safety legislation at work for all employees in, and visitors to the workshop.

To work with, and impart skilled job knowledge to apprentices and provide verbal reports on progress, overseeing the development programme for those undergoing training within LCC workshop facilities 

To assist the Workshop Manager to implement changes to business processes to achieve efficiency savings in line with the changing needs of the business.

To implement workshop schedules and loading to achieve maximum productivity as directed by the Workshop Manager

To ensure compliance with Leicestershire Highways’ quality assurance procedures and ensuring all work undertaken complies with the Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements. Collecting Key Performance Indicators as part of the QMS process.

To ensure completion of all necessary accident forms and vehicle accident repairs and provision of any information subsequently required

Responsible for protecting and managing information securely, and reporting breaches or suspected information security breaches, in line with Council policies.

Applicant Requirements:

Qualifications:

      –    City & Guilds Technician

–    MOT Tester’s Certificate

–    HGV Licence or able to train to complete  C

–    HGV Licence C+E or able to train to complete

–    Continuous Professional Development

–    “Itec” licenced engineer or able to train to complet

Experience: –    Working in a fleet workshop or garage

–    Problem solving and analysing information

–    Proactive planning and organisation

–    Microsoft Office software suite

–    Working using own initiative

–    All aspects of heavy, light and passenger carrying vehicle repair and maintenance

–    Construction plant repair

Compliance: Up to date Passport

Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently. –    HGV Licence or able to train to complete  C

–    HGV Licence C+E or able to train to complet

Hours: 37 hours p/w.
