Seven Social Care are looking for a temporary Home Improvement Officer to work within Coventry.

Initial 3 month contract as you’re covering a vacancy.

£20.91 per hour (Umbrella) 

Hybrid working.

Temp – perm opportunities are possible but not 100% guaranteed. You would need to re-apply however if you’re already in the service then you have a better chance of being successful.

Overview of service are / role:

The Disabled Facilities Grant (hereafter DFG) is a mandatory government grant awarded to local authorities.  Its purpose is to enable the Authority to make adaptations to a disabled person’s home so that they can be safer and more independent in their chosen home environment.  Occupational Therapists (OTs) undertake assessments of the client and recommend to the Adaptations department what would achieve this goal for the client.  The Home Improvement Officer* (HIO) role is to visit clients in their home, prepare plans of the proposed adaptation, and follow the construction through to completion.

Overview of duties and tasks to be carried out

1. Provide advice to enquirers concerning the availability or otherwise of Disabled Facilities Grants and the works required to adapt dwellings to meet clients’ needs in the most economical way in accordance with relevant legislation.

2. Carry out property inspections in line with current legislation and advise clients on availability or otherwise of assistance with funding repairs

3. Visit disabled persons in their own homes to complete application forms and carry out means tests and surveys.

Candidate Requirements – experience and skills

Area Description

Knowledge: · Working knowledge of building construction, with an understanding of housing issues and legislation relating to common types of domestic dwellings, their defects, and remedial works · Knowledge of windows-based software

Skills and Abilities: · Verbal communication skills to be able to converse with a range of individuals including colleagues, contractors, and service users · Written skills to be able to record information accurately and be able to write reports, letters and prepare schedules.

· Numeracy skills to be able to cost estimates, carry out means tests and approve grants.

· Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

· Analytical skills to make decisions based on complex or conflicting information

Experience: · Any relevant experience regarding construction, technical drawing etc.

Environment – flexible / hybrid / on site working / site location

It is necessary to visit clients in their own homes to measure the area where the proposed adaptation will be sited.

There is an office that can be used 7:30-4:30 Monday-Friday

Working at home and / or a Council building is also acceptable

Standard working day / week include total number of hours required per week

5 days per week – 37 hours over Monday – Friday.
