Housing Options Officer

Seven Resourcing are looking for temporary Housing Options Officer to work in Hull. This position is initially for a period of 6 months and is paying £22 (PAYE) or £27.79 (umbrella) per hour. The working hours are Monday – Friday from 9am – 5pm. 

The role:
To provide an effective high-quality homelessness and housing options service for customers approaching the Council to prevent homelessness occurring; determine and discharge the Council’s statutory duties and enable suitable accommodation to be secured

Key Responsibilities:

  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and/or vulnerable adults.
  • To determine the individual housing needs of customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness to determine and discharge the Council’s statutory obligations in relation to preventing homelessness and make decisions in accordance with legislation to enable rehousing solutions.
  • To manage a caseload and maintain accurate case records to ensure that an excellent customer service is delivered, and that local and national performance indicator are met in relation to repeat homelessness, prevention of homelessness and reducing the use of temporary accommodation.
  • Determine a customer’s need for emergency temporary accommodation and arrange suitable placements to ensure that the customer’s individual needs are met whilst ensuring that value for money for the Council is achieved. Support the customer during this period and develop an appropriate plan.
  • To complete inspections and accompanied viewing of temporary accommodation to ensure contractual obligations of property providers and customers are being met.
  • To ensure that statutory homeless households are secured permanent accommodation in order to meet the Council’s statutory obligations and contribute towards sustainable communities.
  • To complete intervention visits to prevent homelessness in the private sector and social sector, where there is a serious risk of eviction. This includes family and friends’ mediation and agreement of preventative action.
  • Represent the service at case conferences, multi-agency meetings and forums to resolve customer’s housing and support needs. Ensure effective operational joint working to provide customers with speedy and appropriate housing solutions.
  • Provide housing options outreach services at a range of locations e.g., GP surgeries, voluntary sector agencies and community centres. 
  • The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull City Council, as your employer and you as an employee of the council. In addition to the Councils overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health & safety and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate H&S policy.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A level 4 professional, academic or management qualification and evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role. 
  • Compliance: Proof of right to work in the UK and 2 x references. 
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37 hours p/w.
