Housing Waiting List Officer

Seven Resourcing are looking for temporary a Housing Waiting List Officer in Rugby. This position is initially for a period of 6 months and is paying £13.69 (PAYE) or £17.80 (Umbrella). This role is 37 hours per week Monday – Friday.  These roles are hybrid with 50% office working (i.e. 3 days one week, 2 days the following week)

The role:

  • Outreach work with those who are rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping, in hospital and require support to return home
  • Providing housing options, advice and guidance to those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness with the aim to assist with prevention of homelessness at the earliest possible stage
  • Administering applications from residents approaching the Council as homeless or threatened with homelessness.
  • The provision of temporary accommodation including the provision of private sector leased accommodation.
  • Determining applications to join the Council’s Housing Waiting List
  • Administering applications for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary awards and providing financial advice and support to clients

Key Responsibilities:

  • To interview, learn the housing need and provide tailored advice to all people that approach the Council for guidance on their housing situation.
  • To provide advice to clients on eligibility for social and affordable housing under the Council’s Housing Allocation Policy
  • To support clients applying to join the housing waiting list ensuring all information and evidence required to support the application is received.
  • To carry out investigations and assess applications for the Council’s Housing Waiting List in accordance with Part VI of the Housing Act 1996.
  • To work with clients to resolve issues regarding their application.
  • To ensure the accurate recording of all information on appropriate systems to facilitate the efficient management of the housing allocations process.
  • To support colleagues within Housing Management Services to resolve issues regarding allocation of a property.
  • To support the reregistration of applications on the first and subsequent anniversary of registration
  • To respond to all changes in circumstances and supersede decisions as appropriate.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Experience:  1+ year experience with housing and homelessness
  • Compliance: Proof of right to work in the UK and 2 x references. 
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37 hours p/w.
