ICT Desktop Engineer

Seven Resourcing are looking for a temporary ICT Desktop Engineer to work in Middlesbrough. This position is initially for a period of 12 months and is paying from £12.92 – £16.30 per hour (PAYE and umbrella payment options available).

The role:

Provide technical advice and support for the range of end user devices and software applications maintained by ICT Services. Participates in the various projects undertaken by the service that require Desktop resource, delivering the required outcomes to the set standards and procedures defined within the service.

Key Responsibilities:

      Provides assistance to users, both in person and over the phone in a professional manner following agreed procedures. Maintains accurate records of user requests, contact details and outcome utilising the ICT Service Desk call management application, Ivanti Service Desk Manager. Provide regular updates and feedback to others.

Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools, follows agreed standards, including those for electrical work. Agrees the timing of the work with those affected, eg: customers, management and third parties where appropriate.

Conducts testing of the hardware and/or software using supplied test procedures and diagnostic tools. Helps to resolve problems and faults and corrects malfunctions, calling on help from more experienced colleagues if required. Liaise with third party suppliers to effect repairs. Creates and updates knowledge base articles in accordance with agreed procedures.

Undertakes all installation and maintenance work associated with the end user estate (Desktops, Laptops, Tablets, Mobile Phones) both onsite and remote in line with the agreed service support hours, 07:30 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 07:30 – 16:30 Friday. Ensures that procedures are followed, particularly those relating to safety and the Council’s Information Security Policy.

Uses available software or specialist monitoring tools to maintain awareness and control of the hardware and software. Identifies and rectifies a broad range of operational exception and error conditions and deals sensibly and responsibly with unexpected or extraordinary events or incidents, as directed by Incident Management function. Where these actions necessitate modification, restriction or complete removal of resources or services available, communicates with users, specialists and other, using appropriate methods (eg: single point of contact such as Service Desk), to inform and escalate if necessary.

Maintains accurate records of ICT assets reporting details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed so that configuration management records can be updated.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: ITIL 3 Foundation – desirable and not essential.
  • Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role.
  • Compliance: 2 x references and proof of right to work in the UK.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37.5 hours p/w.
