Income Billing Officer

Seven Resourcing are looking for an Income Billing Officer to work in Solihull. This position is initially for a period of 4 months and is paying £24.08 per hour (PAYE ) or £26.99 19.35 per hour (umbrella). The days worked can be discussed for what works best for yourself.
The role:
To deal with the effective processing of billing and collection with regard to Council Tax, Non Domestic Rates, Business Improvement District (BID), Housing Benefit Overpayments and Sundry Debts.
Key Responsibilities:
- To process amendments including changes to occupation, direct debits, entitlement to reliefs, discounts, exemptions, and changes to payment methods in respect of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rate accounts
- To set up new customers for sundry income accounts
- To process amendments including change to direct debits, changes to payment dates, change of name for sundry income debts.
- To check direct debit prelists and deal with any exceptions for all income areas
- To support the effective collection of Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates, Business Improvement District (BID), Housing Benefit Overpayments and Sundry Debts up to reminder level
- To deal with any billing exception reports for Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates, Business Improvement District (BID), Housing Benefit Overpayments and Sundry Debts
- To deal with all routine billing enquiries from members of the public, businesses and other agencies by telephone, written correspondence, or electronic means
- To process refunds of overpaid Council Tax, NNDR, BID, Housing Benefit Overpayments, Sundry Debts in accordance with the appropriate limits set by the authority.
- To allocate routine unapplied sundry income payments to a customer’s account
- To deal with any uncashed refunds for Council Tax, NNDR, BID, Housing Benefit Overpayments, Sundry Debts
- To take the necessary action to trace debtors that have left with no forwarding address and update accounts as appropriate. Where necessary arrange for any write off action to be processed.
- Assist in the detection and prevention of fraudulent applications in respect of Council Tax or Non-Domestic Rates.
- Determine the statutory reliefs for exemptions in respect of Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates and BID and the systematic renewals of entitlement where appropriate.
- Make referrals to visiting officers for void cases, exemptions, and discounts, as necessary.
- Cover for scanning post when required.
- Adapt to new methods, techniques, and procedures as they are introduced.
- Assist the Income Billing Team Leader in establishing and implementing procedures, standards, targets, and new initiatives.
- Maintain a basic knowledge of Housing Benefit & Council Tax Reduction
- Have a working knowledge of the computer system and be aware of the impact the inputting of information has on other systems.
- Work with colleagues to ensure business needs are met and appropriate levels of cover are in place at all times.
- Any other appropriate duties as and when required.
Applicant Requirements:
- Experience: 3+ years working within a similar role.
- Compliance: Proof of right to work in the UK and 2 x references.
- Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
- Hours: 37.5 hours P/W
