NRPF Assessor (Part-Time)

Seven Resourcing are looking for temporary NRPF Assessor in Southwark. This position is initially for a period of 6 months and is paying £21.31 (PAYE) or £27.37 (umbrella) per hour. This is a part time position working 18 hours a week. 

The role:

You will also manage a caseload of clients to ensure cases are kept under regular review. Keeping abreast of developments in policy and legislation is important to this role as is attending regional best practice forums. 

You will assist the NRPF Team Leader to prepare reports and statistics on service performance for internal management reporting and contribute towards cross-departmental projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Interview NRPF households approaching the Council for support. All interactions with clients must have regard to the principles of customer care and data protection legislation.

Collect detailed information about the client and their case. If necessary, arrange for translation services. Record this information promptly using the Council’s case-management software.

Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the client’s case to substantiate claims and disprove any misinformation, in accordance with the team’s policies and procedures.

Liaise with a wide-range of internal and external sources during your investigation. This will include, but is not limited to, the client’s family, landlord, employer, Jobcentre Plus, NHS, the Home Office, Police, advice agencies/advocates and other Council departments.

Upon obtaining all of the relevant facts, interpret and apply complex legislation and case-law in order to determine what level of support is appropriate. This will include, but is not limited to, the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002, Immigration Act 2014, Children Act 1989 and Care Act 2014.

When necessary, seek specialist-level advice from the Council’s Legal Services department to support your investigation

Identify cases which have either serious safeguarding issues and/or may result in a significant detrimental impact to the Council’s reputation, and escalate them to the NRPF Team Leader for review.

Make considered, reasonable judgements based on a robust interrogation of all of the available evidence.

Explain your decisions in understandable terms to clients whose first language may not be English. This will require you to manage difficult conversations.

Clarify the rationale for your decisions in writing, issuing prompt letters with clear prose and logical arguments.

Provide advice, assistance, coaching and problem-solving to encourage the household to be proactive and find a practical solution to their situation.

Where appropriate, refer and signpost for the provision of further support. This may include, but is not limited to, Adult Social Care, Children’s Social Care, Housing Solutions and Revenues and Benefits.

Where appropriate, take a proactive approach to tackling misinformation and fraudulent applications. This may include but is not limited to notifying the Anti-Fraud and Audit Team, and providing support to any subsequent investigations.

Manage an active caseload of clients efficiently and effectively. Adhere to service deadlines and regularly review cases to ensure swift progress.

Keep abreast of all relevant developments in policy and legislation, which may impact upon your ability to make assessments. This may include attendance of regional best practice forums.

Assist the NRPF Team Leader to prepare reports and statistics on service performance for internal use.

Assist other council departments and external stakeholders who may require information about NRPF cases and the Community Support Unit. This may include presentations and training sessions.

Contribute towards cross-departmental projects for people subject to immigration control, initiatives to reduce fraud and any other relevant work streams.

Applicant Requirements:

Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role. 

Compliance: Proof of right to work in the UK and 2 x references. 

Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.

Hours: 37 hours p/w.
