The role:

The Vale of Glamorgan Child and Young People Services is recruiting a Practitioner Manager (assistant manager) for our Intake Team.

We are looking for an experienced supervisor to work as part of the team, as one of three Practitioner Managers, to manage, screen and allocate referrals coming into the Team.

They will undertake strategy discussions and work with partner agencies in order to ensure effective and timely support to children, young people and their families / carers. Practitioner managers will also supervise social work staff in their direct social work practice, and deputise for the Team Manager in their absence.

They are involved in a range of activities that enables high quality services to be provide to children and families. Workers in this team need to be able to be able to offer empathetic support to families who have just been referred to Child and Young People Services.

Families in these circumstances are often in crisis and as such workers need to be calm, and child focussed when things are unpredictable. It is crucial that the post holder is able to support workers to de-escalate concerns and offer effective help, managing risk confidently at the front door.

This team completes a range of assessments, conducts section 47 enquiries and establishes whether longer term plans are needed for families. They also are involved in issuing court proceedings where needed. The priority for this team is assessing what is needed to support children and families, if anything and then moving this support to the right team.

Families will also be transferred to our family support teams if intervention is longer than 3 months. Candidates must be able to travel to the Vale as needed.
